Did his death seem to come out of nowhere for anyone else? I had always assumed J.K. would let Snape live, just because so many thought he would die. The way he died seemed cheap, almost as cheap as that quick marriage between Elizabeth and Will in Pirates of the Caribbean. In both cases, it makes it seem like those who wrote it felt conflicted and then came to a snap decision that seemed to make little sense.
She could have let Snape live. While I accept that he loved Lily, or at least had an unhealthy obsession with her, I think the series would have been better off leaving Snape's relationships and reasoning a mystery, and letting him live besides.
As for the Will/Elizabeth thing, I always believed in Jack/Elizabeth -- of course, I was assuming Jack would go back to being a functioning member of proper society (no offense, pirates!) like he was before he left the East-India Trading Company because he realized he was going to have to take slaves as cargo and refused. That's why Beckett hated him so much. I either wanted him to "settle down" or her to sail the seas with him -- you can't say that "Dead Man's Chest" didn't make you see that she could eventually become a great pirate.
Two cases in which I suffered a disappointment that was only enhanced because the situations seemed rushed and unplanned.
Aw well. Now, at least, Snape can have afterlife!sex with everyone who died, and Jack can be gay.
