octopon - Pirates of DarkWater fandom asylum. Completed! gotham_gazetteCompleted!</i> vagrant_story - Vagrant Story fandom asylum. WIP; will be deleted unless more interest is shown. And, Please feel free to join commedia; a personal project of mine, aiming to review and analyze comics (and other selected media) that feature DC Comics' The Joker. It is currently a WIP because I am still going through my 500+ hardcopy!issues collection. I do not download torrents/scans. I'd like to point out that currently I have two polls up for debate, as can be seen here explaining two routes the asylum's project can take. IE: spoiler free reviews, spoilerific reviews, and whatnot. =) Otherwise, the FAQ and The Rules are already up. The tags/memory post is still a WIP. I am also open to affiliating with other comic book and/or Batman related asylums, except for RPGs. How am I feeling? full |

This evening the lovely alisanne was in town, so we met up for dinner and tea and much chatter of fandom and other topics. It was quite a nice time. Now I must prepare for my weekend adventure in Austin, plus try to make some progress on my art coming due.

A while back I pre-ordered the Blu-ray versions of the "Ultimate Edition" or whatever they're calling it of Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets. In the process of proving last night that the thing in the Fry's ad which showed a set of all five films on Blu-ray was not this edition, but just a boxed set of the films, I noticed that the "Ultimate Edition" is also available on DVD for about ten bucks cheaper. I thought well, there must be something extra on the Blu-ray version, or maybe I didn't know I had a choice. I looked at both pages on Amazon, though, and aside from the fact that the Blu-ray crams both the theatrical and extended cuts on a single disc whereas that takes up two discs in the regular DVD version (3 discs and 4 discs total, respectively), I couldn't see any difference. The television that is hooked up to our Blu-ray player (read: our PS3) is, um, kind of the opposite of HD, so while we can watch Blu-ray discs we don't get to see any of the actual benefit of buying in that format. So unless there's something different about the content, there's really no reason for me to pay the extra money. Can someone reality check me here, and make sure there's not something I'm missing? Because if not, I think I'll cancel the Blu-ray order and go for DVD instead.

from a recent post by Wil Wheaton: I've been struggling lately to turn a lot of ideas I have into actual stories. I kind of feel like my writing mojo has taken a temporary leave of absence, and the harder I look for it, the harder it is to find. It has been incredibly frustrating.
This morning, in Warren Ellis' BAD SIGNAL e-mail, he said:
At least half of all writing involves just sitting and staring into space. Letting your brain out to hunt down ideas, bringing them back all warm and bloody between its teeth. This is something that I knew to be true, but had temporarily forgotten. As writers, it's vital that we meet our deadlines, of course, but we also have to build time into our work schedule to read books, take walks, visit doctor whisky, play with our dogs, and do the other things that may not look or feel like work, but are integral to our creative process. The image of one's brain as a cat or hunting hound bringing back warm, bloody game was amusing. Also, IHNJ, IJLS "doctor whisky". lol.

Title: Chasing the Wolf, X Challenges: smell snape100, Ministry of Magic lupin100Word Count: 100 Note: this continues the de-aged Snape plot begun a couple of weeks ago. He is now a teenager physically but still lacks most of his memories. Lupin did not react immediately. Severus pressed closer, drinking in the scent of his shaving lotion. Images flashed through his brain: werewolf, man, boy, adult, teacher, lover - "No. No!" Remus yanked free with a desperate shove. "You're a child! Stop it!" "I'm not a child." Severus' voice was deeper now, his hair longer. He watched as Remus' eyes widened at the changes. "The more I'm with you, the closer I am to myself. You know I'm right." "The Ministry lists you - " "The Ministry can go hang." Severus touched his cheek. "Don't send me back." "I - " TBC…and yes, for those who have followed so patiently, the end is in sight. :D

Oh, a very good day indeed! I emailed in my mini_fest fic finally (I've had it done for at least a week). I proof-read gryffindorj's hp_yule_balls draft and she's looking at my snarry_holidays for me. I deleted over 300 words from my severusbigbang fic but added at least that much again. And gryffindorj and I are working on a collab for severusbigbang and it's really taken off! (Thanks to her mostly.) Actual word count for me so far today is near 600 words but it feels like more. :D I might have had a bit too much caffeine as well. Oh, and Minxie? Halloween candy is the work of the devil. Pat Robertson was right. ;)

You were the one who took me to the Shrieking Shack - " " - where you nearly choked on the scent of your own blood." Lupin's collar was open enough to show the Ministry identification tattoo. "You have friends, a home, a fresh start. Why do you want to remember?" "Because it's my life! You're part of it! I - " Lupin had gone sheet-white. "No. Maybe before, but not now. Severus - " Severus grabbed his face and kissed him.

Just a big thank you and hugs to all who sent well-wishes on my having caught (and apparently caged deep in my lungs) the scourge of the ages; i.e. - h1n1. I'm *still* badly fatigued and ill. I can manage sitting up a couple times a day and using the laptop, but most of the time I'm down and coughing my torso muscles into painful jelly. There is no energy for anything else. I miss my flist. I hope to catch up eventually. For now... recovery. Here's a post from me, too! I actually got a nice chunk of fic written today but somehow I've lost track of what number of words I started with. I am working from an edited doc and I looked at the word count when I started but didn't write it down or anything. I know I wrote somewhere between 500 and 1000 today at any rate. Progress!
