A Superhero's Secret Identity 

      "Mr. H?" 

      "Yes, Richie?" 

      "I just wanna thank you, you know, for not telling my parents about this whole superhero thing." 

      "Just what is your power anyway?" 

      He cleared his throat. "Uh, super smarts." 

      "I should have known," Robert said with a smile. "As a parent of my own superhero, I think your parents should know about the risks you're taking. But I also think you need to be able to continue to do the things you do to protect the community. When your parents find out, I want it to be from you, Richie. I know you'll tell them. You were a smart boy before the Big Bang too, and you're a wonderful son." 

      "Thanks, Mr. H." Richie was always so humbled by any praise from Virgil's dad. "I...I have other things to clear up with them before I even go into the supernatural. Other secrets to spill." 

      A large hand was placed on his shoulder. "I think I have some idea. That's a brave thing to do." 

      "Well, I didn't say I'd do it yet, you know? But, before I graduate." 

      "Don't make me hold you to that. Now, go on up. I think Virgil's waiting for you." 

      Richie nodded.

Forgo; Schadenfreude

                He knew that it would wear off eventually, which was good, as he would gladly forgo these late nights of lonesome depression.

                Beating himself up like this was in accordance with Voldemort's sort of schadenfreude. Even after being defeated, the Dark Lord still had a lot of hold.

                He missed his son; that much was very true. His children were always top priority. And he'd always had a soft spot for the twins. But there was someone else he missed.

Unfortunately, he'd found there was no easy way for a married man to mourn the death of a dead lover.

Vehement

                "Molly. What is 'Papa'?"

                "It means you're my daddy. My father. That you're big and strong and you'll protect me. That's what a papa is. That's what Papa means." She giggled. "I thought you knew that." She smiled and came closer, wrapping her arms around one of his thick, furry legs.

                Entei's gaze softened as he looked down at her.

                He would do whatever she wished. He had a vehement desire to make her happy. It was why he had been summoned by the Unown, after all, for her. And he too knew what it was like to be lonely.

Ruminate; Listless

                "You were completely out of line," she reprimanded. "And if you're having such trouble sleeping, perhaps you can ruminate about what you did."

                "You'll teach me how to fight tomorrow, though?" Yuji asked carefully.

                "We'll see."

                He sighed as she left, not even bidding him goodnight. Sure he'd been a little eager to take action, a little impulsive, but was his earnest attitude toward people really any worse than her cold, listless one? He'd much rather be emotional and undertrained than act like some uncaring robot.

                "Goodnight," he said after her. She was already too far away to hear it.

Boulevardier

                "Pretty slick there, tiger, trying to sleep with Billy instead of pay him five thou." Velma said, lighting one up and taking a drag.

                "Yeah, well...," said Roxie.

                "Moving in on my territory again? Well, trying. What does your husband do again?"

                "He's a mechanic," said Roxie.

                Velma smirked, "He's a regular boulevardier. No wonder you wanted out. No way in hell is a mechanic going to get all that money for you."

                "He'll figure it out," said Roxie. "He's like a puppy you keep kickin'. Loves without questionin' it all."

                "You don't need love. You need five thousand dollars."

Potemkin Village

                As Emily gave her Victor to his Victoria, an odd sense of relief mixed with an odd sense of woe. It was finally time for her to accept Victoria for the lovely person she actually was rather than the Potemkin village Emily had always imagined her to be.

                No, Victoria was perfect. Victor was perfect. They were going to have perfect, living, beautiful children.

                She knew she was doing the right thing in stepping down. But it still shook her to the bone—for her, though, being shaken to the bone was easy.

                She might visit in a dream sometime.
